That Weird Voice Again ...
The Narrator of Poop-Monkey: A Love Story is a self-satisfied art snob who apparently considers himself a philosopher or something to that effect. Besides jumping in and out of the story with hardly a reason given, he finds it amusing to control perception by forcing a change of setting, time or focus at his will. Breaking every fourth wall rule known, he creates a constant atmosphere of deus ex machina that would make Aesop want to poke his eyes out with a spear, and finally achieves nothing useful to society by making everyone concentrate on his self-defensive and sardonic characters. There is no remedy for your frustration, except for perhaps an adherence to your local authority on matters.
